VIGEF – TFCF SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT: SUPPORTING SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS

1. General Introduction

The project “Scholarships for Pupils and Students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City” is a collaborative program between the Vietnam Initiative for General Education Foundation (VIGEF) and the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) in Vietnam.

With the mission of supporting young people in overcoming financial barriers to pursue their dreams, the project focuses on empowering disadvantaged pupils and students, particularly those studying or aspiring to pursue careers in Social Sciences and Social Work.

2. Project Objectives

  • Motivate learning: Encourage pupils and students to remain committed to their career paths in Social Work and Social Sciences
  • Provide financial support: Help stabilize their living conditions and academic pursuits through scholarships
  • Enhance capacity: Equip beneficiaries with soft skills, confidence, and a growth mindset through training activities and practical experiences

3. Implementation Details

  • Duration: 3 years (2024–2026)
  • Locations: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
  • Beneficiaries: Each year, the project is expected to award scholarships to 26 disadvantaged pupils and students who demonstrate good or excellent academic performance and active participation in community activities

4. Key Activities

The project goes beyond financial assistance by building a comprehensive development pathway for students:

  • Annual scholarships: Selection and awarding of scholarships based on transparent and well-defined criteria
  • Skills training: Organizing seminars and training courses on personal goal setting, project management, and career skills in the digital era
  • Volunteer and practical activities: Scholarship recipients are required to participate in at least 20 hours of volunteer work, enabling them to apply their knowledge in real-life contexts and foster a strong sense of social responsibility

5. Key Achievements

To date, the project has achieved several positive outcomes:

  • 2024: Successfully selected and awarded scholarships to 26 students from reputable institutions such as Hanoi National University of Education, Vietnam Women’s Academy, and Ho Chi Minh City Open University, along with a seminar on “Self-directed Learning”
